Playa de los Muertos: A Paradise in Carboneras
Just 4 km from Agua Amarga, Playa de los Muertos is a must-visit. Considered the jewel of Cabo de Gata, this beach is a true paradise, with crystal-clear waters, colorful pebbles, and a breathtaking landscape.
And although its name might sound a bit unsettling, don't worry, there's nothing spooky here. The name comes from ancient times when fishermen who passed away at sea were brought to this beach, but today it’s simply synonymous with natural beauty.
In fact, it has been voted one of the most beautiful beaches in Spain several times. It’s easy to see why – its beauty is unique, and its natural surroundings transport you to another world.
How to Get to Playa de los Muertos
To reach the beach, you leave your car in the parking lot just before the access point. The parking is free for 9 months of the year, but during the three summer months (June to September), it costs 5 euros a day. If you're going in the summer, I recommend arriving early, no later than 10 am, because the parking fills up quickly. During the rest of the year, you won’t have trouble finding a spot.
From the parking lot, it’s a 15-minute walk to the beach. The path is easy and comfortable, but keep in mind that the climb back can be a bit more demanding cardio-wise. It’s a good workout, but nothing too tough! 🙂
Why Playa de los Muertos is a Must-Visit Beach in Cabo de Gata
Personally, every time I go to Playa de los Muertos, I’m still left speechless by the color of the water and the amazing amount of fish that surround you. It’s like a small underwater world. If you don’t believe me, try throwing a piece of bread into the water, and you’ll see how the fish surround you in seconds. It’s an experience that never ceases to amaze me.
Once you're there, all you have to do is relax, enjoy the scenery, and listen to the sound of the waves. And if you're into photography, the colorful pebbles and crystal-clear water will give you perfect opportunities to capture unique moments. It’s definitely the ideal place to disconnect and enjoy nature at its finest.
